起源
英語の“face（面子・体面）”は中国語の「面子/面（mianzi）」など東アジアの“体面”概念に由来し、“save face”はその考え方を英語表現として定着させたもの。
注釈
「恥を避けて体面を保つ」含み。対外的な評価や立場が絡む場面でよく使う。自己保身的・言い訳っぽく聞こえることもある。
