直訳
物置の中で一番切れ味の良い道具ではない
起源
「鋭い道具＝よく役に立つ」という比喩から、頭の切れの良さを“sharp”で表す英語の感覚に基づく表現。道具小屋（shed）にある中で一番鋭くない＝賢くない、という言い回し。
注釈
皮肉っぽく相手の知能を低く評価する言い方で、やや失礼。親しい間柄で冗談として使われることもあるが、職場などでは注意。
