19世紀ごろから見られる表現で、話の進行をコントロールするメタ表現。詳細を省いて要点・結論へ移る合図として定着した。
注釈
会話で「要するに」と前置きして話を畳む定番。やや口語的。急いでいる／長く話しすぎたときに使う。実際は短くならない冗談としても用いられる。
