起源
「hush（静かに）」の語を重ねて「黙っている＝秘密にする」を強調した英語表現。20世紀初頭から用例が見られる。
注釈
「極秘の／内密の」という意味。形容詞（a hush-hush plan）や副詞的（keep it hush-hush）に使う。口語寄りでややくだけた響き。
