起源
もともと「field day」は運動会や野外行事、（軍隊の）演習日などの“特別で活気ある日”。そこから「大喜びで思う存分やる」という比喩表現になった。
注釈
「大喜びでやる／好機を満喫する」。ニュースや批判で「他人の失敗を材料に騒ぐ」含みもある。口語寄り。
