起源
本来はロープを「手を交互に出して」素早くたぐる動作（hand over hand）。そこから「勢いよく増える／減る」比喩になり、特に金銭の急増・急減に用いられる。
注釈
「急速に・大量に」の強いニュアンス。多くは money/profits を修飾し、稼ぐにも失うにも使える。やや口語的で誇張を含むことが多い。
