Having a streak of success or good luck; performing very well repeatedly without interruption.

From the idea of something rolling smoothly and continuously, later influenced by gambling (a run of wins) and sports (sustained strong performance).

Often used for a winning streak or sustained momentum in sports, work, or everyday life. Casual and positive; not literal.

  • Ever since she started the new job, she’s been on a roll and hitting every target.
  • After three straight wins, the team is really on a roll.
  • I don’t want to stop writing while I’m on a roll.
  • He was on a roll in the meeting, answering every question with confidence.
  • We were on a roll until the power went out and everything shut down.

Usually used after a form of “be”: “I’m on a roll,” “She’s on a roll.” Can be “get on a roll” (start a streak). Often followed by “lately/these days.”
